Introduction

“From the Nizam’s period the Maharasthrians are connected with the culture of the city of Hyderabad.Since then this community has contributed to the state in the field of education, literature, art and music. On 21-Oct-1922, cornerstone of the library was laid by five founder members Justice Keshavrao Koratkar, Dr.Hariramakrishna Gogte, Sri Pandurangrao Joshi, Sri Sharma & Sri Kashinathrao Vaidya and a landmark decision was taken to start a library of Marathi books, now known as “Marathi Grantha Sangrahalay” at Esamiya Bazaar, Hyderabad.

The present building was inaugurated in June’1951. Since then dedicated efforts are being made by ëvery management committee member, well-wishers and donors to preserve the precious fabric in social culture with its varied collection of books & reference material and making them accessible to the public. Keeping xxx founding goal on the center stage, over a period of 98 years the library has made several modifications to meet the changing requirements of the members. This library encouraged thousands of individuals to gain access to a universe of information in various fields of knowledge for almost a century.”

Guided by the philosophy that popular literary work in various languages should be made available to Marathi readers, this library, in collaboration with Marathi Sahitya Parishad located in the same premises translated the selected Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Urdu and other language books into Marathi.

Indeed, coming close to celebrating 100 years also documents changes in the way library information has been xxxx. Management of books, members’ information and modernizing library facilities evolved as per the changing times, starting from using registers, cards, Automation using xxxx xxx, launching of interactive website connected with Library Management System, Standalone application for Diwali Ank Gharpoch Yojana, Sticking Barcode to each book, Using social media and mobile applications, Adding Parking Facility, Solar Panelling, Switching over to LED lighting, Audio Book creation.

From the inaugural day stock of 700 books obtained through donation from personal collection of several members, today this institution is holding over 39,000 book and substantial number of reference books. We also have study room for students and reading room with newspapers of all languages. We have branches at Nallakunta & Neredmet in Hyderabad.

Preparations for year-long celebrations from October 2021 to October 2022 are being planned to commemorate the centenary year of Marathi Grantha Sangrahalay.
